inside their car a block away near 12th street. so far, police have no suspects or motives. contra costa county now an outpouring of grief and support after the murder of a retired schoolteacher there. hundreds of mourners marched behind the husband and the children of susie ko last night as they walked to a vigil. her body was found on friday. her husband had called a neighbor to check on her after she didn't pick him up at the airport. police say she had been stabbed and suffered blunt-force trauma to the head. >> i was so devastated. i couldn't believe it was really happening. but, of course, it did. >> last homicide we had here was 2010. we have only had 5 homicides in the last 11 years. >> the fbi is assisting in the case because police in hercules do not have all the necessary resources. authorities are hoping to find susie ko's 2011 blue subaru outback with an idaho license plate. you saw it there.

the car was taken from the home's garage between 7:00 and 10:00 at night on friday. a decision is likely this afternoon on the fate of ross mirkarimi the suspended san francisco sheriff. the board of supervisors is voting on whether to remove him from office for good. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in san francisco with more on what is at stake. good morning. reporter: good morning. this case has played out for months at city hall and this decision a big deal because it could set the precedent for misconduct cases in the future. sheriff ross mirkarimi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor relating to a domestic violence dispute that left his wife with a bruised arm on new year's eve. nine months later we could find out if he stays or if he goes for official misconduct. his wife eliana lopez showed her neighbor a bruised arm which you can see in this video after her husband grabbed her during an argument. mirkarimi was sentenced to three years' probation, fined

and ordered to undergo counseling. he was also placed on unpaid leave by mayor ed lee. since then, mirkarimi has been fighting for his job. his attorney says that the marital incident has nothing to do with his role has sheriff and he was also voted in. mayor lee wants him out taking steps to permanently remove him saying that mirkarimi's guilty plea makes him unfit to hold office. >> we are making already changes and great changes that were in the queue for reform. that should be allowed to continue based on voter will and not let what's an undemocratic process interfere so there's a consolidation of power. >> these are charges that have been sustained by the ethics commission and the ones at the forefront of making sure we hold high the standards of the office of the sheriff in confirming that and i look forward to the board doing the same. >> reporter: here's what will happen today. the san francisco board of supervisors will meet at city hall at 2:00. there will be a 10-minute presentation then of votes. nine of those 11 supervisors

partly cloudy skies. but these temperatures running on the cooler side. usually near 80 degrees in some spots inland. not by this afternoon the it is going to be about 6 to 9 degrees cooler than normal. about 70 in santa rosa. about 71 in san jose. and about 64 degrees partly cloudy skies slight chance of showers into san francisco. all right. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> it's back to work tuesday if you were one of the folks lucky enough to have yesterday off. get a three-day weekend. so we may see more cars on the road. so far, most areas are pretty quick trip. this is a live look through berkeley near ashby and it should be 18 minutes in those westbound lanes of interstate 80 from the carquinez bridge to the maze. so you still have some areas of overnight roadwork still in lanes. a lot of it is from marin county. you will notice it between sir francis drake boulevard and the waldo tunnel. ongoing roadwork across the stretch so heads up if your commute takes you towards the golden gate bridge where they are doing lane changes now. that's traffic. back to you guys. >> thank you.

5:07. in about an hour the sentencing hearing of convicted sex offender jerry sandusky begins in a pennsylvania courtroom. the former penn state football coach was found guilty of 45 counts of child sexual abuse back in june. by law, those counts would add up to a minimum of 220 years behind bars. despite his conviction, though, sandusky insisted in an audio statement that he is innocent of all the charges. >> they can take away my life, they can make me out as a monster. they can treat me as a monster, but they can't take away my heart." >> sandusky also blamed his arrest and conviction on a conspiracy crafted by accusers, investigators and the media. relatives of the former coach are expected to submit letters of support while at least two victims will address sandusky today directly. the nationwide meningitis outlook has claimed its ninth victim of the the latest death was reported last night in nashville, tennessee. cdc says as many as 13,000

people received steroid shots contaminated with that fungus that can cause the deadly disease. the medication has been recalled in 23 states. it could affect patients injected for pain in the back, knees and shoulders. the outbreak has sickened 105 people all across the country. the search continues for a yosemite national park worker. 23-year-old jessica garcia was supposed to be at work sunday morning at the wawona hotel but never showed up for work. she was last seen walking in the park on saturday. the park helicopter as well as 23 rangers on foot will resume the search today. today elect leaders in oakland will announce a new plan to prevent foreclosures just in the past four months more than 800 notices of default were filed in the city of oakland. the mayor there jean quan and others have a plan that involves state help and participation by some major lenders, as well. a state judge has temporarily suspended public hearings on the deadly san bruno natural gas pipeline

explosion a few years back. the break will allow time for private negotiations regarding the fines to be levied against pg&e. public proceedings will resume though next week. that blast killed 8 people and destroyed dozens of homes more than two years ago. california gas prices are sky high the most expensive in the nation. bay area drivers are fed up as you can imagine and some state leaders are now demanding answers. the average gallon of regular gas is $4.74 in san francisco. 4.68 in oakland and $4.67 in san jose. california senator dianne feinstein wants a federal investigation. she is citing malicious trading schemes in the california gas market. at the same time, governor jerry brown has given an order to allow higher polluting winter blend gas to be sold in the state. he says he wants to make more fuel available to drive down the price. an energy expert says companies gaming the system is not the problem. >> the problem is we use a blend of gasoline that's not

"timesaver traffic" cameras. san mateo bridge so far, so good westbound 92 in the commute direction. 14 minutes from hayward to foster city. eastbound traffic looking good toward the east bay coming off the high-rise. overnight roadwork a lot has been picked up now that it's past 5:00. various lanes blocked until 6:00 in marin county from sir francis drake to the waldo canyon. ongoing roadwork you know it if you drive it every day. various lanes blocked, slight delays, not a big deal towards the golden gate bridge. silicon valley ride looks great leaving milpitas to san jose, problem-free across that span from 880 to the 101. we continue to check the ride off 580 at highway 4. usually our first spots to back up and just a few brake lights a little bit of changing color on

our sensors. but no overnight roadwork in lanes on highway 4 looking good so far this morning through antioch. that's a check of your "timesaver traffic." lawrence has been monitoring what looks like a good band or something going on on your hi- def doppler. impressive. >> low pressure spinning off the coastline does look impressive and it looks like we have at least a slight chance of some showers. the core of the low will stay off the coastline so yeah, looks impressive there but most of that moisture is going to start to slight to the south with the area of low pressure. we have had a couple of lightning strikes embedded in the system off the coast. so yeah, we may just see it. it's only a few miles off the coast. we could see scattered showers pop up coastside but the rest of the bay area looking okay. so getting interesting with the hi-def doppler out the door a lot of clouds at the coast. a few clouds inside the bay and partly cloudy in the valleys. temperatures mainly in the 40s right now. as we look toward the afternoon, still a slight chance of some showers near the coastline as that low is slowly going to meander near the coast the better part of the next 24

to 36 hours. a mix of sun and clouds inside the bay and mild temperatures inland into the mid-70s but that low is in place and really not in a hurry nothing moving along very fast so it's go to meander slowly working its way down to southern california before it moves onshore keeping things unsettled over the next couple of days. at sfo we have clouds this morning no delays reported just yet. temperature about 64 degrees into the afternoon. traveling around the country houston looking good about 81 degrees mostly cloudy skies. 61 in denver. a chance of some showers into chicago and new york. temperatures there into the 60s. around the bay, 71 san jose, 74 morgan hill, about 73 degrees in redwood city. east bay temperatures into the 70s in many spots so not a bad day and some partly cloudy skies there. inside the bay a few more clouds, temperatures about 67 in alameda, 64 in san francisco. 62 degrees in daly city. slight chance of showers coastside. next couple of days going to

down in florida, yesterday a 32- year-old man edward archibald won the competition by eating dozens of cockroaches, started vomiting, lost consciousness went to the hospital and died. none of the other contestants had any medical issues. an autopsy will determine the cause of death. the wind could keep an attempted skydiving report this morning, stop him from doing it. >> felix baumgartner is planning to ride a 55 story helium balloon to the edge of space and jump from 23 miles high. this is a live picture of the apparatus he is going to use there. he expects to break the sound barrier before he activates his parachute about 5,000 feet above the new mexico desert. plans are delayed right now due to wind. we don't know if he is going to take off or not today. nasa's "curiosity" rover has scooped up the first material from the surface of

i don't spend money on gasoline. i am probably going to the gas station about once a month. last time i was at a gas station was about...i would say... two months ago. i very rarely put gas in my chevy volt. i go to the gas station such a small amount that i forget how to put gas in my car. here in san francisco where the president is spending the night following a series of fundraisers. she joins us with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the president will be taking with him about $2 million to add to already his goal of $1 billion to raise campaign catch. but today governor romney and president obama are going to be shifting their focus to the key battleground states with the election just one month away. he touched down for his last fundraising blitz yesterday. he he attended to fundraisers, a private $20,000 a plate dinner for 100 guests and a concert for 6,000 more at bill graham auditorium. he has an email push in swing states and says it's time to get obsessive about this re- election. >> so i -- >> so i need you in this election the next 29 days! >> yeah! >> we cannot afford to be complacent!

harrington is in san francisco with more. >> reporter: mirkarimi has been fighting for his job since the mayor put him on unpaid leave. it's been nine months now every hearings and headlines. whatever the san francisco board of supervisors decides today could set precedent for misconduct cases in the future. sheriff mirkarimi was elected last november then suspended without pay by mayor ed lie shortly after being sworn in. he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor related to a domestic violence dispute with his wife eliana lopez who showed a neighbor her bruised arm seen in this video in when he grabbed her during an argument. he was sentenced to three years' probation, fined and ordered to undergo a year of counseling. mayor lee says he is unfit to be in office. but mayor lee is accused of

50s. this afternoon partly cloudy, 70s in the valleys. we are not done with the rainfall. more on that coming up. elizabeth has traffic. >> we have a new injury crash just coming in. this is southbound 880 approaching lewelling. so we know at this point, one lane is blocked, emergency crews heading to the scene and already we're seeing a few brake lights behind that accident. so there are still street closures south of market. we have been talking all morning about the president's visit to the bay area. howard street is shut down between 4th and 5th as well as closures on 4th between folsom and mission. so expect rolling closures delays especially along 101, a little later on this morning the president departs san francisco boards air force one around 9:30 this morning so heads up. later today we have the oakland as 6:05 p.m. playing by the oakland coliseum. could see some delays especially for the evening commute home but for right now, pretty good to go as you head up towards downtown oakland. that's a check of your "timesaver traffic." traffic and weather together

every 10 minutes. back to you guys. it's 5:39 now. california gas prices are the highest in the nation and some state leaders are now searching for answers. the average gallon of regular unleaded gas is now 4.74 here in san francisco over in oakland at 4.68 and down in san jose 4.67. governor brown has given an order now to allow higher polluting winter blend gassing to sold here in the state. it's cheaper. he says he wants to make more fuel available to drive down the prices and at the same time california senator dianne feinstein is calling for a federal investigation. she is citing malicious trading schemes in california's gas market. dueling news conferences in san jose over measure d on next month's ballot. it would raise the minimum wage in the city to $10 an hour. the chamber of commerce released a study that says the measure would actually cost jobs, though. >> those members who said they pay a minimum wage 67% of them said they would cut employee

charges for shooting at passengers inside a truck this past april. in a half hour the sentencing hearing of convicted sex offender jerry sandusky begins in a pennsylvania courtroom. some of the folks are just now arriving. i believe that's his attorney as he goes into the courtroom. mr. sandusky has been convicted so he is already inside the courtroom. former penn state football coach was found guilty of 45 counts of child sexual abuse back in june. by law, those counts would add up to 220 years in jail. despite his conviction, sandusky insists in an audio statement that he is innocent of all the charges. they can take away my life, they can make me out as a monster and treat me as a monster but they can't take away my heart. >> sandusky also blamed his arrest and conviction on a conspiracy crafted by accusers, investigators and the media. relatives of the former coach

time for weather at 5:47. it's all about rain and our weatherman is pretty geeked up. >> i am. this is about as exciting as it's been for months of talking about low clouds and fog. now we have low pressure off the coastline and this time of the year things shift gears and we talk about rain. doppler radar is picking up on some of the rain off the coast. getting close to point reyes, wouldn't be surprised if we're starting to see a couple of light showers out toward the lighthouse there, but most will stay off the coast. low clouds this morning, partly cloudy this afternoon, still a slight chance of showers most of that right along the coastline. that's where the core of the low will continue to work its way. so it's going to stay off the coast. it's not going to move onshore but there's a chance we could see a couple of these bands moving onshore carrying some light showers as we head throughout the morning hours and into the afternoon. but that low is going to drag all the way to the south ever so slowly so staying unsettled today into tomorrow, as well. around the state, you have about 76 degrees a few clouds

into sacramento, 77 degrees in fresno. a chance of a couple of thunderstorms into ukiah. partly cloudy into the monterey bay and around our bay we're looking good toward the afternoon. partly cloudy, 71 in san jose, 70 milpitas, maybe mid-70s in the warmest parts of the valleys but as you approach the coastline again a few more clouds slight chance of showers, temperatures cooler too about 62 degrees in daly city and about 65 degrees in bodega bay. next couple of days we'll keep things unsettled then a brief break on thursday. another system on friday to bring another slight chance of showers then drying out warming up over the weekend. let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> we have a couple of things going on. first a check of the bay bridge toll plaza. starting to get backed up a little bit in those cash lanes so no metering lights yet but you will see those brake lights there approaching the pay gates. so we'll see bigger delays a little later on. we'll let you know as soon as they turn the metering lights on. let's go to the maps show you a couple of other things. we'll continue to follow this injury crash southbound 880 a slight location change right there before 238. if there is a bit of a delay

block of the left lane. also we have just learned there's some late running roadwork. a caltrains crews are picking up overnight roadwork on northbound 101 around the 380 interchange so this is north of sfo. but it is causing some delays until about 6:00 this morning. apparently three of the left lanes are blocked. so big delays right now actually. we are seeing some speeds below 25 miles per hour. they may be running a quick traffic break to completely clear it but we'll let you know as soon as they do. we also have of course the president in town. there are a number of road closures south of market in san francisco. howard between 4th and 5th and 4th between folsom and mission. a little later on this morning about 9:30 the president least for sfo bound for air force one so you may find rolling closures and delays along 101 leaving san francisco between san francisco and san bruno. quick look at westbound 580 leaving the livermore area. here's a live look approaching the dublin-pleasanton area. about a 15-minute drive time between the altamont pass and

pregnancy and attention deficit hyper activity disorder in kids. study looked at 400 children and found an increased risk of adhd behavior in kids whose mothers are higher levels of mercury. some fish included tuna and swordfish which have higher levels of mercury. san francisco is about to get its first target store. the doors open for everybody tomorrow but tonight there is a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration. in august, hundreds of people turned up for a job fair for the store at the metreon center at 4th and mission. this store is maller than most target stores and won't sell large items that are hard to carry home. high-end department store nieman marcus is set to release its annual christmas book loaded with plenty of indulgent gifts including a $42,000 tour of european flower shops on a private jet. hm. and a $250,000 hand made mahogany speedboat.
